Jewellery Information

What kind of gold plating do you use?

We use 1 micron of 18k gold plating on all of our plated jewellery. The term micron refers to the thickness of the gold layer and 1 micron is considered a high-quality, durable finish.

To put it in perspective our plating is up to 30 times thicker than high street flash plated jewellery - making it much longer-lasting and more resistant to everyday wear.

With the right care, storing your jewellery in a cool, dry place and keeping it away from water, perfumes, and lotions, you can expect the gold plating on your pieces to last up to 3 years, if not longer.

Is your jewellery waterproof?

Some jewellery, particularly pieces made from stainless steel, is described as waterproof due to a special process called PVD coating (Physical Vapour Deposition). This technique bonds a thin, clear layer to the surface of the metal, making it more resistant to tarnishing and fading when exposed to moisture. However, even with PVD coating the gold plating can still wear down over time, this process is simply slowed down, not prevented entirely.

The only truly waterproof metal is solid gold, which doesn’t tarnish or fade with water exposure but it also comes with a much higher price tag. Our jewellery offers a more affordable alternative, using thick, high-quality gold plating over a base of recycled sterling silver. This not only ensures durability and long-lasting product with the right care, but also aligns with our commitment to sustainability.

To keep your jewellery looking beautiful for years, we recommend removing it before showering, swimming, or applying perfumes and lotions.

Why don't you use PVD coating?

While PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coating is commonly used in mass-produced jewellery (especially on stainless steel) it doesn’t align with our values or the materials we work with.

Our jewellery is made from recycled sterling silver and plated with a thick layer of gold. PVD plating is not typically compatible with sterling silver and is mainly designed for use on industrial metals like stainless steel. The process also requires high energy and large-scale machinery, making it more suited to factory production rather than small-batch, sustainable craftsmanship.

We choose traditional plating methods that work harmoniously with our silver base and allow us to create high-quality, long-lasting pieces in a more mindful way. By avoiding energy-intensive industrial processes like PVD, we're able to stay true to our ethos of considered, low-impact jewellery — without compromising on beauty or durabilit
